On Art

Art is defined by the Oxford New English Dictionary as thus:
 –noun
1. the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.
2. the class of objects subject to aesthetic criteria; works of art collectively, as paintings, sculptures, or drawings: a museum of art; an art collection.
3. a field, genre, or category of art: Dance is an art.

That is not quite true, but it is a definition. Art is an expression of the human mind and existence. Art is a uniquely human creation. True, animals can be taught to paint, but those images produced are mainly abstracted and not true art. Art is a reflection of an artist, a person who communes with artistic mediums the way the pope communes with God.

Art reflects the artist, and it is clearly evident as all artists have their own unique style, that can be immitated, but never truly replicated. My own artistic style is quite unique, and draws influence from anything and everything. From early Gothic Christian art, I have assimilated an art style that displays the unique two dimensional properties of the picture plane. From comic book art, I have assumed an art style that is simplified, reducing human features to highly realistic and indicative lines. From video games I have absorbed a hyper-detailed depiction of form, often composed of irregular polygons and distorted spheres. I have drawn most inspiration from modern anime and manga styles of art. From anime/manga art I have drawn an elegance and fluid balance to composition.
